Caper Company Tours

About

Caper Company has been leading the Port Washington Ghost Walk since 2010. Over 600 people have enjoyed this bit of paranormal fun.

All of the ghost stories that we share were told to us by Port Washington residents – either their own personal experiences or stories they’ve heard from friends and family. Some of the stories are our own experiences. After so many years, we’ve seen some things that we can’t quite explain…

You won’t have anyone jumping out from behind a tombstone at you. Not that that’s not fun! It’s just not what this tour is about. This ghost walk is about the stories.

I hope you will join us.

My boyfriend and I found the flier for the Haunted Pub Tour in a restaurant in Fort Collins. That night I set up a tour for the next day. When we arrived, we were the only people on the tour! I couldn’t guess why because we had SO much fun! (despite the hangover the next day) We will definitely do one of these again if we are in Fort Collins. Our guide was also FANTASTIC! He was very funny and kept in character until the very end.

The walking tour was alright, but the man giving the tour attempted to be in “character” for a haunted tour, talking really, really Êslowly for effect which was very annoying.

Nightly Spirits

About

The magic of Nightly Spirits started in 2012. We were 2 guys that didnÕt know a whole lot about history, tours, or ghosts for that matter, but we knew we were sick of taking people that came to visit us on the same tours of Washington, DC. So, finally after getting busted(by the fun police, not the actual police) on a Segway tour for indulging in some spirits while operating a Segway. We decided there had to be something better to do, and there was! We started by researching the requirements to open a tour company in Washington, DC, which would scare most people, but since we had a lifetime ban from touring on the SegwayÕs, we had to push forward.

I worked in Old town for 5 years and saw numerous ghost tours in session so I was immediately interested in signing up for one, not only because Old town is known for immense historical background and legendary sites, but because everyone knows ghost haunting is very real. The tour was AMAZING. I highly recommend it and if you are a history lover you will want to sign up for more tours. The guide was very knowledgeable and communicated the historical background very well! He looked and dressed the part and the stories he told were interesting and worth hearing! Great beer selection at nice pubs along the way!

We took the Alexandria, VA Old Town version. The guide’s accent was sometimes too thick, the ghost stories were summary and bland, and the pubs selected for us to drink were the highest priced in the area. The guide flat out asked for tips.

Washington DC Ghost Tours

About

Washington DC has a historic and glorious past. Our nation’s capital is rich in history and monumental democratic achievements, but behind its gates and within its corridors, a darker past is hidden. Conspiracies, crimes of passion, duels and assassinations are just a few reasons Washington’s Lafayette Park is known as “Tragedy Square.” Washington DC Ghost Tours features professional tour guides who will show you a Washington DC road map of the paranormal.

Our tourguide was actor Chad Eric Smith. His delivery of Êstories were beyond what you would expect. The stories were historically accurate and full of suspense at every corner. The white house and the square looks awesome at night. I would definitely avoid the bus tours and walk with Mr. Smith around LaFayette Square if you dare.

Can’t say how the tour was because we got a text it was cancelled. We had the Groupon. I couldn’t reschedule because we were leaving gor back home.

Ghost Story Tour of Washington

About

Take A Ghost Tour in DC this October and meet the ghosts! Tours begin Friday, October 7th and runs on Fridays and Saturdays to October 29th including a special tour on Halloween, October 31st!

The first Ghost Story Tour of Washington was…indoors! Yes, it’s true. It began in 1998 at the Historical Society of Washington’s original site, the Christian Heurich House Museum. It was a big success and eventually spread to other historic houses (Octagon, Decatur House and Sewall-Belmont). By 2000, we added a tour of Lafayette Square as part of the ghostly fun. Here’s a story on an early Ghost Story Tour from Washington City Paper!

Melissa did a snappy job of keeping us entertained! Not sure if we experienced any ghostly activity, but it was fun to think we may have! Recommend this as a way to spend an evening!

We had a great time on this tour – and I think I accidentally learned something, too. I definitely recommend this for Washingtonians looking for something different, or for tourists looking for an off-the-beaten-track sort of thing. This is not super scary, it’s more about true historical stuff – ‘ghosts’ from the past show up to tell their tales of woe. Don’t hesitate to bring the kids!

Had an amazing tour with Alistair a few weeks ago. I was pleasantly surprised to have a British tour guide and he was super entertaining and knowledgeable! A lot of history of the area combined with ghost stories and completed in a graveyard. If you’ve been on this tour before, remember that there are two separate tours – we just got lucky with an amazing guide and easy route.

Attended the Mercy Street tour. First, be advised that Mercy Street is not filmed in Alexandria, so temper your expectations accordingly. Second, our tour guide was entertaining, fun, and well-spoken but I thought he gave us a white-washed view of the causes of the Civil War. He stated that the North was fighting to preserve the Union while the South was fighting for states’ rights. This is correct only to the extent that the South was fighting for states’ rights to maintain the institution of slavery and spread it to new territories. It was the but-for cause of the war. We need to get real about our history.

My boyfriend and I went on this tour of Old Town not expecting much, but we were delivered an excellent storytelling experience, some creepy stories, and overall a fun lesson in some of Alexandria’s history. We had Leigh, who was the best of all the guides that evening — make sure you get her! She was funny, warm, and kept us engaged for the full hour. The group was small enough that she was easy to hear at each little stop, and we thoroughly enjoyed her and the group experience. Highly recommend for a cheap, easy and entertaining evening!

My friends and I went on this tour recently while visiting Old Town. I think our tour guide did an okay job. It was nice to hear more history about Alexandria, but I wasn’t overly impressed with the story tellers ability to emphasize “ghoustly” or “scary” in this tour. It’s an interesting thing to do, but don’t expect too much.

For any fan of history, this is essential. It was a bit light on the actual ghosts, but historical details and tales of the sordid past of Washington D.C. abound.

My wife and I have been on Haunted Tours in Charleston, Boston, Salem (MA), Savannah, etc…. This was by far, the worst “Haunted Tour” we’ve experienced. When we go on these tours we want to hear about the dirty, grimy, historically accurate stories that you don’t read in history books. Why do ‘they’ still roam the halls at night, wailing and howling… But we didn’t really get that on this tour. Yeah, we too, got Christopher (dressed as Samuel Chase) as a guide. He got his “facts” mixed up at certain times and would laugh it off. His stories were much more history based than having to do with hauntings, ghost/apparition sightings, and the like. His delivery of his stories was w/o rhythm, so his lead to the “punch line”/oooh-ahh scary ‘moment’ was about as enthralling as a mouse fart in church. And it really took too long to get to the punch line. By the second or third stop on the tour, my wife told me she’d stop listening to him already. If you want slow-paced history tour where you continually get asked if you know “this historical figure or that historical figure”. This is it. We love to tip, but we tipped nothing, nor did said good-bye to Christopher. To boot, he had some girls following him around all night with a microphone, recording him. They were annoying and distracting. I would not recommend this tour. -Charlotte, NC Another good point by a poster below, our guide did give his political opinion throughout and his grand finale was laced with some sort of anti-GOP rant… Unnecessary.

We scheduled the Heights Ghost Tour, also known as Ghost Tours of Texas. We arrived as requested at the stated time and our group of 20 waited…and Waited…and WAITED. 30 minutes later a call to the representative and she related that she didn’t know where the tour-guide was and he wasn’t answering his cell phone. We were directed to reschedule. So much for a wasted Saturday night. Fast forward to the following rescheduled Sat. night. The tour guide was very unsure of the details of the tour. Unbelievable. Halfway into the tour, 10 people had left. We were aware of the facts of some of the houses, and he was mistaken. For example, pointing to a relatively new home and inferring that 200 years ago a haunting occurred. The Heights wasn’t built 200 years ago and the house was under 10 years old. Another story was alike-completely falsehood. We watched the house being built the past year and he related a ghost story that happened here in the 90’s. The house looked old because it was pier & beam and Victorian style, but it was new. I asked if it was the same house and he related it was. Story after story was inaccurate. Even the story of the doll house that burned down last year was grossly inaccurate after eh pointed to a house elsewhere and related the dollhouse was patterned after that particular house. When someone asked a question, one could tell the answer was made up. If I was going on this tour with FREE tickets, it would still be a waste of time. For us, it was a waste of time and money.

We purchased the Houston Ghost Tour tickets on Groupon. It took about a week of leaving messages to receive a call back to make reservations. I spoke to Danny. Since I had read from many reviews that oftentimes this company does not show up for the tour, I mentioned to Danny that we were willing to go to the time/place where someone would SHOW UP. He told me to be at Old Town Spring at 8 pm. He assured me that someone would be there for the tour.
